The road crew is responsible for collecting refuse, recyclables, yard waste & ashes, ground maintenance, park maintenance, and road maintenance. Hours of operation are 7am till 3pm, although during bad weather, the road crew are on call 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
Refuse is collected on Monday's. Citizens must use the blue bags purchased from
the borough, and must place them curbside the night before collection. You must
also display the refuse sticker issued to you by the borough, and it must be
easily seen by the road crew. Anything other than the blue bags will not be
taken. You are asked to abide by these rules, as they are passed by rule of
Council, and the road crew is expected to abide by them.
On the First and Third Wednesday of the month, Co-Mingle will be collected. Aluminum Beverage Cans, Steel/Bi-Metal Cans, (Tin), Glass Bottles, (Clear, Green and Brown Bottles and Jars), Plastic 1 and 2, (Soft Drink Bottles, Peanut Butter Jars, Laundry and Dish Detergents, Bleach, Fabric Softners, Milk, Water, Juice and Punch Jugs), will be allowed. You must rinse cans, labels can be left on, you should remove plastic caps on glass and plastic bottles, as the cap is not recyclable. All items put out should be rinsed and clean, the recycling center will not accept dirty items, and the road crew will not pick them up. On the Second and Fourth Wednesday's, Newsprint, magazines, cardboard, junk mail, or anything other than waxed paper or waxed cardboard is recycled. Do not tie anything with twine or wire. Bag newspaper of leave loose in your container. Do not tie magazines or cardboard. The recycling center is very strict about what they will take, and if they find items that are not considered recyclable, they will refuse the load, and that load will have to be then taken to the landfill. One of the major concerns is items being placed in the packer and taken to the landfill, that should be recycled. To alleviate this problem, you as citizens of Dupont will be expected to abide by the rules of recycling. Council does not want the added expense of dumping items at the landfill. Please obey the rules, so there will no longer be any problems with recycling the proper way in Dupont. If you do not obey the rules, the road crew will leave your items at curbside with a copy of the rules for recycling as well as the items that can be recycled. You will be required to fix the problem, and then have to wait until the next scheduled pickup of those items. The road crew will not return for your items once you have fixed the problem. Time does not allow for the crew to make several trips around town, because of the large volume of materials being recycled in Dupont.
Yard Waste and stoker ash is collected on Tuesdays. Items of this type should
be put out early in the morning, or the night before collection. DO NOT USE THE
RECYCLING CONTAINERS for yard waste or ashes. Although the boro officials have
ok'd the recycling containers for yard waste, you should still not use them. If
you do they must be cleaned out by washing it, to prevent contamination of any
recyclables you might put into it.
The recycling center will refuse loads that
contain anything other than the acceptable items. Grass mixed in with the
recyclables will be refused, and the entire load will then have to be taken to
the landfill at Keystone, which will increase the cost for labor, time, and
tipping fees.
Road Maintenance is performed mainly in the summer months, but in extreme cases
during the winter months. During winter, cold patch is used for maintenance,
which is a temporary patching material. During the summer months, hot patch, a
more permanent type of patching material is used. It is impossible for the road
crew to be on every road in the borough at the same time, and if your road is
in need of repair, be assured that the road crew will be there to fix it,
before the winter sets in. If you have a serious problem with your road, call
the borough office at 655-6216, and report it. The road crew will respond as
soon as possible to fix the problem.
Tree limbs are taken, provided they are cut no longer than three feet in
lenght. Also if you remove a tree, you are asked to contact the borough office
and arrange for a truck to be dropped off. The road crew does not come and load
trees for you, as time and job responsibilites do not allow for excessive time
needed to truck away various loads of trees. Upon loading of trees, you may
then call the borough to have the truck picked up and dumped, and if need be,
have it brought back to you for more than one load.

During the snow season, the road crew removes snow accumulation from the
streets. The road crew plows the streets from curb to curb. This is to assure
all travelers that travel the streets in Dupont, free access, unrestricted by
snow covered streets. If you park your vehicle along the street curb, and do
not wish to have your vehicle plowed in by snow, you should remove your car
from the street before the plow comes through. Also, do not shovel your
sidewalks before the plow comes through, as plowing curb to curb, the snow from
the street will be pushed up onto the walks. Do not throw snow from your walks
back onto the street. The road crew will have to come back, and they will once
again, push the snow back up onto your walk. There is a borough ordiance that
makes it illegal to throw snow on a street. Shovel the snow from walks into
your yard. Throwing snow back onto the streets could result in your being cited
by the local police.
