As of
January 1, 2007
, all
burning
within the
boundaries
of
Dupont
is strictly
forbidden
. This measure was taken because the
boro
is presently trying to obtain a
grant
for a new
recycling truck
. Allowing
burning

recyclable products
hinders the process of
obtaining
the
grant
, making it
harder
if not
impossible
to
aquire
.
Grants
benefit the
boro
, as the
taxpayer
is
not required
to
pay
for the
vehicle
through
higher taxes
or
increased refuse fees
, which would be the
alternative
to
not aquiring
the
grant
.
The ordinance is as follows:
An Ordinance of the Borough of Dupont, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania Prohibiting
Pollution Occasioned by Outdoor Fires within the Borough of Dupont,

New Airport entrance road set to be built
By-Pass to be built from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport to the
Grimes Industrial Park could begin late next year according to a Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation engineer. At their monthly meeting, the
commissioners from Lackawanna and Luzerne counties who make up the six member
board for the airport received this project update. The by-pass will be
designed to alleviate truck traffic in Dupont to the park. It will run from
Navy Way, along the southern border of the main runway, consisting of bridges
over Lidys Creek and the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Commerce Road. Three houses
would have to be acquired to accommodate the road and the plan still needs to
be fine tuned closer to the airport entrance to include a roundabout for
motorist. Once the access road is completed, work could begin on the airport
interchange at Exit 178 of Interstate 81, project engineers said. The $20
million project is nearing the final design stage. The airport will benefit
from easier access to and from the interstate and the access road would open up
land around the airport to development.
